Poor, unemployed and isolated or informed, engaged and integrated? Why and how young people in the Middle East and North Africa can (and must) transform their region now will be discussed by researchers and development experts on the eve of the Bonn Conference for Global Transformation.

Almost five years have passed since the beginning of the Arab Spring. Young people who were actively committed to their region – without being involved in party politics – were the driving force behind this transformation. But what is the current situation? Why are young people not participating in the political process, and what could encourage them to do so?

Mahomad Rabah will moderate the event. He belongs to the younger generation in the region, and he knows the social difficulties young people face and which prevent them from getting involved. Together with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, he has set up youth centres in Palestine, where young people can learn about political codetermination.
